What a beautiful day it is suppose to be! The high is 58 and partly sunny!! I just wish it would stay that way…. Soon enough. It was a gorgeous weekend too. Friday night we stayed in and watched a movie. I have seen it many times before but my dad insisted that I make Aaron watch it. It’s called “Shine” and no its not the same as “The Shining”. Shine is based on a true story about the Australian pianist David Helfgott who was a child prodigy and was struck with, what I assume is, a form of autism. It is the story of his life and it is really good. The movie came out in 1996 and apparently spurred a world tour for the real David Helfgott afterwards. Great movie.
Saturday was a little bit of a lazy morning followed by an amazing evening. We had the surprise benefit dinner for my dad and I couldn’t have wished it to turn out any better. There were 200+ people there and dad had no idea. When we opened those doors and he saw the sign with all the people in the room, he had the most shocked look on his face. It was great! There were so many out to support him! The rough numbers that I have received are that we raised between $5,000 to $6,000 and it is a 50/50 split with the ALS Association. Marie Matuszak was there from the Association and she is so sweet. I got to work with her for the walk last year and look forward to working with her again. Perhaps we will have to get together outside of the ALS events as well.
Sunday morning dad and I went to the 11:30 service at Res Life and then went out to breakfast. Dads friend, “brother” Harold, was here from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He flew up here just for my dads benefit!! It was just an amazing weekend.
Surgery is 10 days away and I am looking forward to it being done! I don’t want to have it on my mind anymore. And I think I will enjoy the first couple days of being able to sleep as much as I want. But I think eventually I may go nuts… that’s ok. I know that I have friends and family that will take care of me and come visit. Marcie doesn’t have as many obligations anymore and I think she is going to want to spend more time with her little seester. Plus, only one more week until my road trip with Rach…. Haayyyy Rayyyy, hey, hey, hey :)
